Sandy Goercke Pottery

I made my way to clay because the texture and malleability of the medium appealed to me. The versatility and range of expression offered by clay still fascinates me. It is singular in that it allows for delicate precision work as well as bold organic solid forms and countless variations in between those extremes.

Every so often inspiration strikes and I jot down my musings. To be honest, it's a bit of a potluck. It may be a demonstration I gave in one of my classes, a workshop or a trip I've taken. Really just whatever strikes my fancy. I hope you'll get as much enjoyment out of them as I do.

The Studio

I work from my home studio which is nestled on the East side of my garden under a fragrant Syringa tree. This is where I work on my own ceramic pieces and teach pottery classes. The studio is located in Benoni, on the East Rand of Johannesburg.
Sandy is a remarkable teacher and creates a welcoming space. Pottery at Sandy's is the best therapy ever. The group is a place of belonging. Sandy co-creates a space of freedom and finding your own relationship with clay.
Sandra Goerke is a highly experienced pottery teacher in hand building and wheel work with a number of different clays. She is able to help students of all levels of experience to explore all the necessary techniques. I have been lucky enough to have had Sandra at my side on my own journey which started roughly 24 years ago and am very grateful for her encouragement, support and guidance. She generously shares her wealth of knowledge and experience.
