Annual Pottery Studio Exhibition - December 2019

Last night we had the annual exhibition for the students of my studio. What a wonderful turnout we had.

The warmth of catching up with new and old friends outshone the unseasonably cold, wet weather.  We wined, chatted and nibbled on some delectable delights – never a shortage of food or wine at pottery class. 😉 Some attendees were so eager, after reading about our exhibition in a recent edition of the Benoni City Times, that they arrived 3 hours early. 😊

Of course, the main attraction was the students’ ceramic pieces on display in the studio. It was just lovely to see all the different interpretations of this year’s theme: cylinders. Intermingled were a few pinch pots to provide some height variations, but also a great reminder that sometimes it’s important to get back to basics.

Being that the gift-giving season is upon us, we had some ceramic works for sale. A beautiful, handcrafted gift is the perfect way to express thoughtful consideration to friends and family - and has the added benefit of encouraging local artists as well. We also had vouchers for pottery classes for sale; which have become popular with the rise in gifts of experience.

A heartfelt thank you to all my students – without you, this would not have been possible. You should all be pleased with your contributions to this year’s exhibition and the growth, exploration and experimentation you’ve shown. What a wonderful high note to end a year of potting on!

A selection of photos accompanies this blog, but all the ceramic works will be posted on our Instagram and Pinterest pages over the coming weeks. Please follow us on Pinterest and Instagram to see the full range of exhibition pieces.

And, with that, the year draws to a close for the studio. As students (and teacher) relax, recharge and go in search of inspiration for next year’s endeavours – the studio undergoes a good spring clean so that it’s ready to contain the frenzied creativity that will no doubt be 2020.

Whether it is near or far you roam, or just on your couch at home, I wish you a peace-filled break.
